Grasp welcomes its first advisor – Jochen Zaumseil

Today marks an important day at Grasp, as we welcome our first advisor: Jochen Zaumseil.

Jochen Zaumseil is a previous Executive Committee Member of L’Oréal, where he served for 37 years, across 8 different countries and 4 continents. Before his recent retirement at the end of 2020, Jochen was in charge of L’Oréal Asia Pacific for more than 10 years, which became the #1 region of the Group and the #1 Beauty Company of the continent.

Jochen and Grasp crossed paths through the HEC Paris Incubator Program, a tailored, à la carte and participative startup support program that helps accelerate growth of ambitious startups by mobilizing all resources of the HEC ecosystem. Jochen joined the HEC Incubator Program after his recent retirement as an expert and mentor, and Grasp was selected to join the Incubator Program for the spring round in 2021.

Being surrounded by brand experts like Jochen is key for Grasp. Jochen not only brings extensive leadership insights, he will also help guide Grasp through the complex marketing and advertising ecosystem of big global brands.

Detailed bio of Jochen

Jochen Zaumseil’s career with L’Oréal spans 37 years, 8 different countries
and 4 continents.

His journey began in 1982 when he joined the company as Product Manager for Lancôme at L’Oréal France. Two years later he moved to L’Oréal Austria where he held the position of Commercial and Marketing Manager for Lancôme. In 1987, he left Europe to head west to L’Oréal Mexico where he remained for 2 years as General Manager of Helena Rubinstein and Ralph Lauren. He then returned to his home country, Germany, where, for the next 7 years, he held the position of General Manager of Germany’s L’Oréal Professional Products. He returned to Latin America in 1998 as General Manager of L’Oréal Venezuela until October 2000, when he became President & CEO of L’Oréal Canada. After 4 years in Canada, he left North America, to hold the position of President and CEO of L’Oréal Japan for 2 years, before coming back to France in 2006.

Since then, he was Managing Director of L’Oréal Western Europe and for more than 10 years in charge of ASIA PACIFIC, which became the #1 region of the Group and the #1 Beauty Company of the continent. He spent the last 5 years of his career in Hong Kong.

Jochen was appointed to the Group Executive Committee in January 2007.

Fluent in German, French, English and Spanish, Jochen holds a Business Management Diploma from Köln University in Germany as well as an International Management Diploma from France’s HEC Paris (École des Hautes Études Commerciales).

In 2014, he was decorated “CHEVALIER dans l’ordre de la LEGION D’HONNEUR”.

He retired in December 2020 and now dedicates his life to mentor Startups and to help giving back a smile to the Street Kids in Manila.

Jochen is 63, married and has 4 children.
